UNL Family Lab – SMS Privacy Policy

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) Family Lab is committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring a secure experience. This Privacy Policy governs the collection and use of mobile phone numbers and SMS consent data collected for our laboratory communication programs.
1. Information Collection and Purpose
We collect your mobile phone number exclusively when you voluntarily opt-in through our registration forms or surveys. This information is used solely to provide you with research session updates, study notifications, event reminders, and relevant program communications related to the UNL Family Lab.
2. Strict Privacy Protection and No-Sharing Policy
Your privacy is our utmost priority. The UNL Family Lab values your trust and strictly adheres to the following data protection rules:
• No Sharing with Third Parties: We do not sell, rent, lease, trade, or share mobile opt-in data, phone numbers, or SMS consent records with any third parties, affiliates, or commercial partners for marketing, promotional, or any other purposes.
• Internal Use Only: All text messaging data and consent records remain strictly confidential and are handled exclusively by authorized UNL Family Lab personnel for internal research administration.
3. Opt-Out of Receiving SMS messages and Help Options
You maintain complete control over your mobile communications.
• To Stop Messages: You may opt-out of receiving SMS messages at any time by replying STOP to any text message received from us. After doing so, you will receive a single confirmation text, and no further messages will be sent.
• For Assistance: You can reply HELP to any text message for customer service instructions, or contact our laboratory staff directly.
Please note that opting out of SMS communications does not constitute withdrawal from the research study. If you wish to discontinue participation or do not want any further contact from the research team (including phone calls), please use the study contact information to notify the study team.

UNL Family Lab – SMS Terms of Service

1. Program Description
The UNL Family Lab may use text messaging to communicate with research participants who have opted in to receive SMS communications. Messages may include research study appointment reminders, scheduling invitations and updates, survey invitations and reminders, and other relevant laboratory or study-related communications.
Message frequency varies depending on an individual's involvement with the UNL Family Lab and its research activities.
2. User Opt-In
Individuals may voluntarily provide their mobile phone number and opt in to receive text messages through UNL Family Lab registration forms, surveys, or other enrollment processes.
By opting in, you authorize the UNL Family Lab to send SMS communications to the mobile phone number provided. Agreement to receive text messages is not a condition of participating in a research study or other laboratory activities.
3. Fees and Frequency
The UNL Family Lab does not charge for its SMS services. However, standard message and data rates may apply according to your mobile carrier plan. Message frequency varies depending on your active involvement with our research studies.
4. Opt-Out and Stop Instructions
You can cancel this service at any time. Simply reply STOP to any text message received from our laboratory. Once sent, we will send you a final confirmation text message to confirm you have been unsubscribed, and we will cease SMS communications to that number.
